DENGUE VACCINATION
Dengue Vaccination in Tyldesley
Dengue isn’t spread by the mosquitoes you swat at night – it’s the ones that bite in broad daylight. If you’ve had dengue before, the vaccine is worth asking about.
What Dengue Is And Who Requires Vaccination?
Dengue is a viral infection spread by mosquitoes that bite during the day. It’s common across tropical and subtropical regions, and cases have been rising in parts of southern Europe too.
Most people recover in a week or so, but a second infection carries a higher risk of severe dengue. That’s why the vaccine is mainly considered for people who’ve had dengue before.
It’s worth discussing if:
You've had dengue before - this is the key consideration.
You're travelling to a high-risk region for an extended period.
You'll be in an area with an active outbreak.
You're visiting family in a dengue-endemic country.
You're a repeat traveller to the same region.
You want a full travel health review rather than one vaccine at a time.
You're unsure whether you've had dengue - we can talk through what that means.
You're planning a long trip and want to plan vaccines properly.

FAQs about Dengue Vaccination
Do I need the dengue vaccine for a two-week holiday?
Usually not, unless you’ve had dengue before or there’s an outbreak in your destination. We’ll assess your specific trip.
Why does previous dengue matter?
A second infection carries a higher risk of severe dengue. The vaccine is licensed for people with a confirmed previous infection, so this changes the recommendation.
How many doses are needed?
The course is two doses, three months apart. That timing matters when you’re planning travel.
Can I have it if I've never had dengue?
It’s not routinely recommended in that situation. We’ll explain the reasoning and what to do instead – mainly bite prevention.
What are the common side effects?
A sore arm, headache, and tiredness for a day or two are most common. We’ll go through the full list at your appointment.
Can I have it alongside other travel vaccines?
Usually yes, with some timing considerations. We’ll plan it all together.
